PROJECT PROPOSAL ACTIVITY

$21.50

Guidelines: This assignment requires you to post an original thought and respond to one of your classmates thoughts. In total, you will need to make two posts. Your original thought must be at least two paragraphs in length with five sentences in each paragraph (should include a FULL citation (not just a web link – see info on “sources” below). Your response post must be at least one paragraph in length with five sentences (does not need a citation). While the original post should include a citation, please remember that this is not a formal academic paper and your postings should retain a “discussion” flavor.

Topic: You are a hired to assist the human resources director of a local hospital. He has hired you to help him revamp the performance management system specifically for the nursing staff working in the obstetrical department. The current process is to conduct an annual performance review using a traditional 12-item graphic rating scale (some with behavioral descriptions) that measures aspects of work such as attitude, quality of performance, productivity, attention to detail, job knowledge, reliability, and availability. The form also provides room for comments by supervisors and employees. There have been numerous complaints about the process from both employees and supervisors that it seems like a waste of time, does not provide good feedback, and does not sufficiently assess their performance under the team approach they use when delivering babies.

Original Post: The HR director is looking for your assistance on three items: 1. How would you proceed with the task of modifying the performance management process? 2. What two specific performance management strategies should be implemented that would yield the greatest improvements? 3. What might be some obstacles in implementing the approach and how will you overcome these problems? Your original discussion post should respond to each of these 3 questions.

Sources: To receive full credit, you must cite at least one academic or government source to support your position in your original thought post. Please do not cite your book – this assignment requires you to do additional work. The following websites are not appropriate academic citations: Wikipedia.com; Ehow.com; Ask.com; About.com or anything in the same genre.

This paper is cumulative. Beginning with the statement of proposal direction, you followed with a logic model and then described how you will use one or more of the approaches discussed in Modules 2 and 3. Now it is time to apply what you learned in Module 4.

Write a section for your proposal that describes how you will establish the boundaries of the evaluation. This is not just a statement but a thorough description of how you will respond to the questions presented in the course text and the discussion in Module 4, showing how you will:

  1. systematically clarify the task with each group of stakeholders
  2. set boundaries and analyze evaluation context
  3. select and analyze evaluation questions

(If you do not yet have all the actual information on the program you may eventually wish to evaluate, you may invent information about the program for this exercise. However, try to keep it relatively close to what you hope to evaluate.)

Your project paper should be in Microsoft Word 2000 or higher. Remember to follow the current edition of APA format. Your paper should be double-spaced and in 12 point font. It should not exceed four pages and should include an additional page that lists your citations. .

Every week, your assignment should be submitted using proper APA format. A cover page will not be required. However, the first page of the assignment should include a title and proper headings for sections of your response. In-text citations should follow APA guidelines, and you should include a Reference list as a separate page with entries that match in-text citations. You may include an Appendix if you have additional information (e.g., assessment instruments, tables/figures, other supporting documentation).
