ANALYSIS PAPER PLAN

CLINICAL TOPIC:
The purpose of this article is to evaluate the importance of Roy’s theory in addressing the problem of childhood obesity in the U.S.

THEORY SELECTED AND RATIONALE FOR IT’S SELECTION:
According to Roy, a person is a biopsychosocial being who needs to adapt to environmental stimuli. Roy introduced four modes of adaptation through which responses to environmental stimuli are expressed in people’s behavior. The Self-concept mode of adaptation constitutes the individual’s feelings about their bodies and personal selves, whereas the interdependence mode of adaptation focusses on interpersonal relationships and giving and receiving of social support (Roy & Andrew, 1999). Also, the physiological mode of adaptation addresses the continuity of physiological vitality of an individual. On the other hand, role function mode of adaptation includes the social integrity by focusing on the performance of activities associated with various roles played in society (Roy & Andrew, 1999). The four modes of adaptation mentioned by Roy make this theory relevant in analyzing the problem of childhood obesity and constructing a framework to prevent this global epidemic from growing.
