  • Analyzing the role of the modern media in the pro-democracy events (2014)

    $15.00

    Media Log

The assignment is an essay analyzing the role of the modern media in the pro-democracy events going on in Hong Kong right now.

Use whatever media you normally use to get news information — tell me what it is — and what you learned about the role of social media in organizing these demonstrations.

It is clear that the Chinese government does NOT want this to happen — what have they done to combat its use?

And who do you think is going to win, and why — in this battle of technologies?

NOTE: THIS SITUATION MIGHT CHANGE AT ANY MOMENT.  Chine could use force, the Army or he Police, to break up the demonstrations. Do you think they will? Why or why not?

Use your media to analyze the role of the media there — we’re watching the future happen right before our eyes.

  • Internal or external factors explaining the collapse of the GDR

    $49.00

Internal or external factors explaining the collapse of the GDR

The essay, ideally, needs to acknowledge different opinions found in the literature, and then explain why one line of thinking is right and the other one is wrong. I, personally, would argue that the GDR was not an independent and self-sustaining political actor and, therefore, regardless of its internal adequacy or inadequacy, would not have survived the collapse of the Communism hence, determining the external factors as primary cause of the collapse and the internal as secondary. The main points to look at would be:

    1. The impact of Soviet policies on shaping events in the GDR and role of Gorbachev in particular.
    2. Economic problems (ruined after the war + Soviet reparations + planned economy inside vs market economy outside + accumulation of foreign debt).
    3. Awakening of civil society (church) leading to mass demonstrations, formation of opposition (though not strong enough to bring the regime down).
    4. Leadership problems (lack of legitimacy both, internally and externally, failure to recognise the need for change, failure to create national Identity).

  • Development of nationalism from the French Revolution until today

    $17.00

Your answer to this question should be 2-4 pages in length.  Do one essay from this section.

    1. Discuss the development of nationalism from the French Revolution until today.  How did the concept develop, how did it spread throughout Europe, and then throughout the rest of the world?  How has it affected world events throughout the twentieth century?  Use specific examples to describe the effect of nationalism.
    2. Examine the development of the mass-consumer driven society and economy in which we live today, from the mid-to late-nineteenth century to the present day.  What cultural, political, and/or economic events caused it to develop?  Use specific examples! What specific economic theories support the concept of an economy based on consumption?  How was its development helped and/or hurt because of government policies in the US and European nations?  Finally, how has the consumer-driven society been affected by economic ups and downs since the 1970s?
    3. Discuss the role of women in the western world from the Scientific Revolution to the present.  What discoveries and changes led to different ideas and views of women?  How did those views change over time?  Look at each time period covered in class, and use specific examples of women who were either unusual for or typical of their time periods.
